I was really surprised in researching this article how many people actually make their full time living from YouTube. I was even more surprised when I learned that there are hundreds of individuals earning more than $100,000 a year from YouTube. A typical day for me includes receiving dozens of e mails from people looking for answers to their financial challenges. These challenges almost always involve a lack of income as at least one element of their overall circumstances. The Christian community has done very well for decades providing resources on the issue of budgeting and teaching people how to organize their finances and live within their means. I think this is wonderful and necessary information. At the same time, however, I recognize that for most people increasing their income is a big part of the equation.
I love opportunities like the one I am going to share with you today. Earning money from YouTube can be done on a completely part time basis and on your own schedule. It also takes virtually no money to get started.
How YouTube Pays Its Partners
YouTube is owned by Google and has become fully integrated with a program known as Google Adsense. The Adsense program is something I cover in one of my free workshops on Internet business. These are small ads that can be inserted on a website and then the owner of the website earns money every time a visitor clicks on one of these ads (see the illustration below).
Google Adsense ads can also appear in the lower portion of the screen on a YouTube video. You may have seen something like the example below. As the creator of the video, you receive money each time one of these ads is clicked on.
A variation on this is the option to allow YouTube to insert a short 15 to 30 second video that runs before your video begins. I am sure you have probably experienced this if you have seen very many YouTube videos. The commercial video allows the viewer to watch it in its entirety or click 'skip' after the first few seconds. YouTube pays you for each time the video is watched completely (similar to if someone clicked on a lower screen ad).
How To Get Started
The first thing you need is to become a member of the Google Adsense program. Adsense is 100% free to join but in order to get approved you must first have a basic website. You can watch a video overview of how to get a website going for about $5 per month on this recorded training I did a few weeks ago. Stay to the very end of the training as I give away a 100 page e Book on how Adsense works and step by step how to get started. This is a $30 value, so be sure and get your copy.
The next step (or simultaneously) you should open up a YouTube account. There is no cost to set up a YouTube account and begin uploading videos to it. Your videos can be about anything that interests you. One hilarious video called 'Charlie Bit My Finger' earned more than $150,000 on YouTube. Not bad for the couple that spent 57 seconds filming their two kids!
YouTube Millionaires Share Their Stories
All you need is a little bit of imagination and a flip camera to get started. If you don't know how to upload your videos, ask your children or grandchildren to show you. Even though I teach Internet marketing, I have to admit that I have not taken full advantage of the YouTube opportunity. About two months ago I put together a 17 minute video on Bible Prophecy and it now has more than 50,000 views! It also reached the number one search result under the search phrase 'Bible Prophecy' in YouTube.
Once you have a YouTube account up and running and a minimum of ten videos online, it make sense to officially apply to be a YouTube Partner. From the 'settings' option within your main menu you will see the option to do this. Once you are approved to be a partner you can begin earning money from your videos. Not everyone is approved, and if your application is declined, you will have to wait a few weeks before you can apply again. This is why you should publish at least a few videos before applying. Use your Facebook account to drive traffic to your newly uploaded videos by posting links to them in your timeline. Check out my latest YouTube videos - Christian Financial Advice.
